Nomar On the Rampage
Give some homeless guys a dollar and they will by rot-gut booze.
Give others a cell phone and they will call 9-1-1 a couple thousand times.
Such as been the experience of the emergency responders in Vallejo, California to the antics of “Nomar the homeless guy”, a serial crank caller who’s tallied almost 2,000 fake emergency calls.
And reportedly Nomar is pretty good at crank calling, faking an overdose on valium and needing medical help, suffering a possible heart attack, witnessing an injury accident, attempting suicide, following a stolen car with Texas plates, breaking his hip playing soccer and being robbed.
When Nomar isn’t being Nomar, he’s reportedly “Steve,” “Willie Davis,” “David” and “Mike” and he’s always got some kind of emergency going.
Officials have logged 1,928 emergency calls from Nomar, whom they have established is using a donated cell phone provided by an Oklahoma company and dispensed to the homeless in San Francisco.
Although Nomar specializes in calls faking emergencies in Vallejo, CHP has through triangulating the signal among cell towers, found that Normar is operating in San Francisco but with an extensive knowledge of the layout in Vallejo.
In spite of Nomar’s remarkable record for crank calls, he is playing only second fiddle. Another crank caller from Hayward has reportedly called the CHP 5,000 times since May and usually just breathes deeply or giggles.
Next time around, it would probably be better to just give them money and forget the cell phones…
