John David Roy Atchison
When John David Roy Atchison, 53, left his Gulf Breeze, Florida home on September 16, 2007 he probably had no idea that he was going to be at the center of one of the biggest whoopsies of all times.
As Atchison traveled from his home in Gulf Breeze to the Pensacola Airport and from there flew to Detroit, Michigan he had no clue what awaited him upon his arrival in Detroit.
Certainly he had to know of what he was leaving behind; a wife who is a popular science teacher at Gulf Breeze High School and “teacher of the year in 2004″, a son in college, a daughter in college, a daughter in high school, his position as president of the Gulf Breeze Sports Association, a youth athletics organization, the Florida Bar Association of which he has been a member since 1984 and his job as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, a job he held since the 1980′s.
Allegedly none of those things prevented Atchison, who reportedly described himself on-line as “a family man” and who went by the moniker “fldaddy04″, from seeking out a new sex partner on September 16, 2007.
A new sex partner for whom Atchison was allegedly willing to travel from Florida to Michigan to meet.
A new sex partner that Atchison allegedly thought was only five-years-old…
In his Yahoo profile, “Fldaddy04″ indicated “I adore everything about young girls, how they talk, think, act, walk, look.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney John David Roy Atchison was arrested upon his arrival at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. His arrest was the result of a “sting” conducted by a detective working undercover for the Macomb County, Michigan Sheriff’s Department.
It is alleged that over the course of two weeks between August 31st and September 13th that Atchison communicated with the undercover detective who posed as a mother offering to let men have sex with her young daughter.
When the detective, posing as the mother, expressed concern that sex could injure the girl, Atchison allegedly responded, “I’m always gentle and loving; not to worry; no damage ever; no rough stuff ever ever. I only like it soft and nice.“.
Reportedly when the the undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury Atchison responded, “Just gotta go slow and very easy. I’ve done it plenty.”
Allegedly Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that “you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents.”
Following Atchison’s arrest officers reportedly found a Dora the Explorer Doll, hooped earrings, sex aides and petroleum jelly in his luggage.
Atchison was arrested on charges of attempted enticement and coercion, aggravated sexual abuse and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. At an initial appearance he entered a not guilty plea on all counts and consented to detention, meaning he will remain in custody of U.S. Marshal’s throughout the case.
On Monday the day after his arrest word of Atchison’s arrest swept across the news media and the internet. His family, friends, associates and supervisors were devastated by the news of his arrest and the nature of the allegations against him. The family home in Gulf Breeze was “egged”, his wife took a leave of absence from her teaching position, his daughter did not attend school and FBI agents swooped down on the Atchison home where a computer was seized. His office computer was seized also.
Atchison, who was being held at the Sanilac County Jail was following his arrest placed on suicide watch. After the suicide watch was lifted by a federal magistrate Atchison allegedly attempted to hang himself using a bed sheet. Thereafter he was transferred to a federal prison facility.
Atchison’s trial is currently scheduled for November 27th and if convicted of all charges he could face up to life in prison.
